Monday close out. The double breasted suit. “Post Modern Gent” wore a Thom Browne double breasted jacket to the Expo 1 party on Saturday. The double breasted jacket is tricky because with the wrong cut you can end up looking like a pimp. But when done right it’s nothing but aces especially when paired with some common project sneakers.

I was lucky enough to get invited to the Expo 1 party at MoMa this past Saturday. And honestly, the older I get the more I value invite only parties. The party was held in the garden- it was the first time I’ve attended a MoMa party the Garden. It was perhaps one of the more “fancy” parties I went to in a long time. I recognized some pretty big art names and everyone seemed “monied” for lack of a better word. But the highlight of the evening was getting a preview of the “Rain Room” which MoMa describes as: “A field of falling water that pauses wherever a human body is detected, Rain Room offers visitors the experience of controlling the rain. “
I spotted one of the rain room artists but got distracted and forgot to corner him before I left. Again, I need to start going to places with my camera but here are a few pics from the evening.

The story of the ‘Sapeurs’ in Congo.
“Sapeurs are also pacifists, says Mediavilla: “You have to be respectful to others. You cannot be aggressive.”

Last week was a really good friend’s birthday. And like most birthdays over 30 it was met with some heartache and some joy. As we sat around eating cake, drinking wine and discussing the new Phoenix album, trips to Paris, Vogue and other random topics- I thought about the people in the room. Some of us parents, some of us single, some married or partnered but all for the most part fully functioning adults in a city that we love. And in that moment, I felt something was missing or rather someone was missing and that I wished he was there to share in the moment with friends, eat cake and laugh. But alas….Phoenix- the beloved group for my age set has put it in words.

Loving everything about this track. A little Star Slinger and J Dilla influence- I’m feeling it.

Old Money vs New Money. Love vs Envy. Lies vs the Truth.
I was talking to a friend a few days ago about how so many people in New York are concerned about their status and not their work. These people would rather have the appearance of having it “All” than actually work at having it “All”. And when you work at having it all, you don’t have time to brag about your accomplishments because they mean nothing compared to what you’re planning to do next. And you don’t have to name drop because your contacts are not used to impress or get into an event but to achieve tangible and lasting success. I think this is what Fitzgerald was talking about.

I’m not really sure what to say about the new James Blake album. Except really that it’s just more of the same- he’s basically made the same album three times. And I hate to critique anyone’s work because I can’t even begin to imagine the work ethic and talent required to complete a major musical release.
Maybe because spring has finally arrived and I’m just not in the mood to listen to the dark sounds of Blake. But could it have killed him to produce at least one upbeat song? I have a feeling the remixes are going to better than the album.
